Counterpoint and Two-Part Writing

Learn how independent melodies work together. ยท 25 min

Independent musical lines

Counterpoint combines two or more independent melodic lines.

Each line should have a clear melodic shape while contributing to the overall harmony.

Consonant intervals often provide stability, while dissonances can create tension when handled carefully.

Practise singing or playing each line separately before combining them.
